This is British Comics - Issue By Issue, a new wiki-style site dedicated to cataloguing, indexing and reviewing this huge and ignored area of culture. Here we cover everything from the “Penny Dreadfuls” of the 19th century, through to the Story Papers of the 1890's to 1920's and, of course, the Comics of the 20th and 21st centuries. But this site can only grow with contributions from YOU! the collectors out there who actually own these comics. So read the guidelines, get out your issues and start posting!

Mission Statement

Of course, there are other websites, books and magazines out there that have covered British comics before. But almost all of those have only ever provided dry lists of statistics - exciting sounding but ultimatley meaningless story names and cover scans. Still others are so wrapped up in the money to be made, the adverts or the “reflection of the times” they forget what is most important of all - the stories! Here we want to describe, enjoy and celebrate the stories, and leave everything else to secondary concerns. So many contributors to British Comics went unrecognised down the ages, it is time thier work was celebrated and bought to new eyes.
