| + | A story paper begun in the 1870's by [[edwin_j_brett|Edwin J Brett]]. The paper was very unusual for the time in that the illustrations (at least on the covers) were in full colour. This did push the price up to 1½d, though. The front cover illustrations were large and striking. The first serial, showcased on the covers, was entitled "The Master of The Sword" and appears to have been set in Elizabethan times. A later serial was set in the civil war - these allowed for colourful pictures to show off the paper. | ||
